Raw Date and Raisin ‘Truffles’

date and raisin truffles raw vegan tesco orchard recipe cacao powderAs a member of Tesco Orchard, I received some vouchers to try Bioglan’s organic raw cacao powder and another product of my choosing, for free courtesy of Tesco and Bioglan. Have I mentioned that I love Tesco Orchard? It’s a lot of fun trying out new things that I wouldn’t necessarily try (and lets face it, it’s nice to get stuff for free). I’ve also been getting more interested lately in raw food, so this was the perfect opportunity for me. If you’re not yet a member, I highly recommend joining.

Bioglan’s Supergreens powder and raw cacao powder

The Supergreens powder has an unusual but pleasant tropical flavour, and apparently a 10g serving contains more nutrients than five of your five a day. It can be added to smoothies, although be aware that it tastes quite sweet already, so try not to match it with overly sweet fruit or the smoothie might get a bit sickly. It can also be mixed with water on its own to make a drink, so easy to incorporate into your everyday life.

I made two types of truffle, one with some of the Supergreens powder rolled in desiccated coconut, and one flavoured with the raw cacao powder and rolled in the same.

They’re quite rich, particularly the Supergreens one, so a little goes a long way, but I can see them being quite useful in staving off chocolate and other snacky cravings. Wee Girl tried one, and straight away came back to filch another, so she clearly liked them. At least it’s one way of upping her nutrient intake.

80g pitted dates
70g raisins
1 tbsp water
2 tsp raw cacao powder OR Supergreens powder
Small amount of cacao powder OR desiccated coconut to coat the truffles

Method
1.) Whizz up the dates and raisins in a small blender or food processor with the water to loosen it.

2.) Transfer to a bowl and mix in the cacao or Supergreens powder.

3.) Shape into balls and roll them in whichever coating you choose. Er… and that’s it.

About allpastmidnight

Hi, I'm Alison, I am a mid-thirties mum to two children, Little Man and Wee Girl. Wee Girl is pre-verbal and has autism, while Little Man is the sort of happy chatty little guy who gets into everything and sings at the top of his lungs — until the moment he makes eye contact with a stranger and he goes silent. I am cynical, sweary, and a bit disorganised, and I blog about parenting, ASD, food and just about anything else I can think of. Feel free to follow me on any of my social media. These look amazing – are they bitter at all? I’ve only used cacao powder once and found it SO bitter!!!
